Sometimes described as reclusive, young writer JD Bauer opened up to suite101.com about her new book, The Quest for Water, (Publish America Press, 2010) On her Trinity of Superkidds Facebook page, Bauer describes her youthful protagonists as " teen aged heros gifted with a variety of exotic superpowers which they use to inspire, raise awareness and vanquish water waste and pollution in a fun, fast-paced adventure."
In today's world, and especially in the aftermath of the horrendous BP oil gush in the Gulf of Mexico, Bauer's passionate approach to environmental stewardship cannot be ignored. Besides the engaging plot and the strong theme of environmental stewardship, there are even more reasons to read The Quest for Water. Read suite's interviews to understand what these are.
World Water Day, World Food Program and Quest for Water
When asked about her launch date for Book One in her environmental action series, Bauer replied that she chose March 22, 2010 to launch TSK: Quest For Water "to celebrate World Water Day (WWD) – an annual event observed worldwide as a day for action about water and the environment and
threats to both." World Water Day," she continued " is an initiative backed up by local efforts like the Surrey, B.C.'s Annual 'Walk for Water', waterunderfire.ca, and also watermatters.ca."
Bauer's support of the environment goes even beyond her writing. She has agreed to donate the proceeds of the sales of Book One in the Trinity of Superkids to the World Food Program. Suite wanted to know what compelled her to do this.
JD Bauer: To inspire youth through adventure, fun and games and raise awareness. I'm a big fan and supporter of The World Food Programme. This may sound corny, but I truly, in my heart hope for a world free of hunger and drought.
I have donated loyalty proceeds to this charity, paying it forward. Writing is a hobby that I love. I write for fun, to entertain, inform, and inspire – not for profit – so getting published and selling over 14,000 copies in the first two weeks of the launch is a windfall that I must dedicate to those in need as I am financially secured.
I am grateful that New Millennium Studios in USA has optioned the film rights to TSK: Quest for Water and also for this soon-to-be released sequel, TSK: New World Order, the proceeds from this deal further donated to charity. I hope that TSK's message of passionate truth and service will reach and inspire more youth through the proposed films.
JD Bauer on the BP Oil Disaster and the State of Water
All living things contain water; some live in it; we all drink it... Although we all take it for granted, it's no secret that water is in crisis – being felt across the globe in terms of scarcity, over-usage, pollution. Look at the river Nile – bitter disagreements that could turn violent – war among the nine countries through which it flows.
Picture water refugees on our shores – a thirsty, desperate exodus – cash rich, but water poor.

- 19'92 Exxon Valdez,
- 2010 BP Gulf of Mexico
...Offshore Drilling? Do it right. Oil spills? What's with the endless drama? Can anybody shout out enough already?
Finally, suite wanted to know if Bauer feels confident that youth, when reading the TSK series will
become better stewards of the environment than past generations?
JD Bauer: I hope so. Youth today are smarter but they are not heard; nor are they blinded by special interests. For youth, tomorrow is now. Yet they are on the margins, in fact, left out of the debate on this most basic all-important human right: access to water, its pollution, scarcity.
The grown-ups are talking – endlessly, pointlessly, toothlessly – Kyoto, Copenhagen speak to that. Has anybody bothered or cared to ask teens about their views, aspirations or fears about the condition of the
environment?
Not only does Quest for Water continue to create a buzz, it has been well-reviewed and most importantly, well-received by its intended audience: youth.
